Psychologists in Canada are typically required or encouraged to take a minimum amount of Continuing Professional Development hours to maintain their professional designations and skills. Registrants of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) must complete 50 CPD hours every two years. Requirements include:
Content requirements within the 50 hours include:
Content requirements may be met through activities in any section, and a single activity may count for multiple categories.
Section A includes activity-based peer interaction such as workshops with discussion or structured professional development meetings.
Section B includes information-based CE such as courses, seminars, and self-directed readings.
Section C includes preparation for teaching, presentations, and professional dissemination (preparation time only).
CEUs may be counted on a 1:1 basis. Behaviour Analysts may count 1 CEU as 1 CPD hour.
Registrants must maintain CPD records for five years, including activity date, section, hours, content category, description, and reflection. Supporting documentation (e.g., certificates, agendas, registration confirmations) should be kept when available. Only the CPD Declaration of Completion is submitted at the end of the cycle; full records are provided only if selected for audit.
The College does not accredit or endorse CPD providers. Registrants must determine whether an activity supports their professional competence and meets CPD requirements.
